This is how you save money as a student
Being a student is one of the best times in the life of a person. But money can be an issue for many a student and most survive by getting student loans and by working part time while studying. So how can you get by? Some tips!
Borrow or buy second-hand books
Every year, schools prescribe textbooks for each class. Then there are teachers that require additional reading, which means more books. There are times when books are available in the library. But that is not always the case. When it comes to books, students do not necessarily have to have brand new books every term. Purchasing second-hand books or even borrowing books from friends can save them thousands of dollars. Asking upperclassmen if they have books they want to discard and/or swap is a big help. Students can do the same with their own books. Instead of keeping the books and letting them gather dust, it is better to get more mileage out of them by swapping, selling, or lending them.

Pay bills on time
The biggest enemy of credit card holders and people who take out loans is interest rates. When people fail to pay the minimum required amount on or before the due date, interest rates already apply. For most people, they cannot complete payments because they are only able to pay the interest rates on what they borrowed. Even with the lowest interest rates, once they accumulate, loans become almost impossible to pay. So managing their money and paying bills on time will surely save students a giant headache later on.
Split bills with others
Students that live alone have a harder time managing expenses. But if the expense is shared with others, it makes it easier to bear. So if a student rents an apartment, it is best to split the rent with a roommate, along with other expenses like utilities and food. If there are unnecessary expenses like cable TV or Netflix subscription, best to cut them out to lower expenses a bit more.
Manage your food budget
Food and drinks are 2 things students cannot live without. Unfortunately, many students blow their food allowance on expensive coffee or tea drinks. An average cup of coffee at a corner store only costs USD 1 to 3. But going to a well-known coffee shop for a java fix can set you back USD 6 per cup. If a student grabs a 6-dollar cup of coffee every day for a year, that easily translates to USD 2,190 for coffee alone. For others, it is buying a 2-dollar soda from a vending machine. While USD 2 does not sound too expensive, it becomes so when it is compared to store-bought soda at 40 cents. The best way to manage the budget for food is to buy things from the grocery and prepare your own meals.
